Fizzled out at Wembley...

Now, I agree it's a bit late to write on the Champions League final, but then you'll excuse me having been a victim of another massive conspiracy (This one involved My Cable-operator and some stupid University exams!),which even forced me the indignity of watching the Repeat telecast next day, rather than the Live game. Nevertheless, the Catalans produced a display, brilliant enough to keep writing for long time to come.
Honestly speaking, few of us (except the United's own fans, I mean) might have given Manchester United little more chance of beating Barcelona, than that of Northampton beating Liverpool (which is still quite good, I must admit!).
But the way in which Barca dominated was, well, all the adjectives have already been used anyways. In a way, the game looked not much different form Barcelona vs Levante, or Barcelona vs Almeria or Barcelona vs Valencia, or maybe Barca vs anybody you want! All the talk of this team being one of Ferguson's best, all United had to do in this game, was come to the match, run around in a headless manner, and then applaud the winners.
I must admit though,it was ridiculous, the way Barcelona made United crumble.Watching the repeat telecast, I couldn't believe the Red Devils couldn't string 3 passes together(They did manage it few times though, I remember Rooney once dropping as deep as Ferdinand,to pass to Vidic, who played a neat(!) one-two with Ferdinand, before passing to Evra, who promptly blasted it straight to Valdes!) But for all Barca's dominance, United could really have shown some strength. Now let United fans believe Evra as one of the best Left-backs(no point blaming them, even I, for a few dreamy days, believed Jose Bosingwa was World's best Right-back!),but he was simply....well, Leave it.While Park Ji-Sun, who we were made to believe is some kind of Superman, looked like a rabbit caught in headlights. He did put in a tireless shift, that's all he can do.Pity,he didn't get one small thing, a touch of the Football. But then, that's always the case, when you play against Xavi and Iniesta.I think the only way to get the ball against them is have one of your own! (Reports say that's the main reason Fergie says his team lost the game, because UEFA didn't allow them to have their own ball.He believes this is another conspiracy against his team, by UEFA,the Referees association, and a couple of aliens from Jupiter!)
Xavi showed his genius again, with amazing 124 passes!
They say, you must remember God in every situation, even as enjoyable as this,so I promptly thanked the almighty for not allowing Chelsea past United in the quarterfinals this season (The ref who didn't give Chelsea the penalty in stoppage-time against Evra, looks a really adorable character, suddenly!)For after a short mini-revival, the sort of depressive displays Chelsea have produced at the very end of the season, I guess there was quite a good chance UEFA wouldn't even allow the final to be played, simply to maintain the dignity of the competition!
All in all, Barcelona shut up every one's mouth (including my little one) with that dazzling display.I mean, who cares about all those controversies, when you get to watch something as closed to "Divinity" as this! Just as a parting shot, they said United had a plan in place to stop Messi.Well, watching him dance past them with ease, one couldn't resist thinking stopping this man should be a crime! And anyways, there are really few ways to stop Messi. One involves hiring a "Special One" for some 10 million euros a year, and that's not a guarantee anyways.I think the best United could have done was simply praying to God that Messi has an off-day!(But then, how much interest God would have in United fans' prayers is something to ponder upon!) Another season ended, with the familiar sight of the Scarlet-and-Blue clad triumphant men. Perhaps, there will be better challengers to them next season. As it's said, there is always Hope!
Any words needed here?

Adios!

  1. nice post.....though the Chelsea thing, and FALSE Fergie claims could've been avoided....as a loyal ManU fan, i wud still say that Barca totally outplayed ManU and deserved the title.....ManU couldnt pass.Hernandez was just chasing the goalie,Park Ji-Sung was asleep, and wish i cud give Evra the middle finger....Valencia looked frustrated

  3. barcelona vs manchester united proved to be a damp squib actually. Did expect Sir Alex to play Berbatov, as he is more clinical in the air. Without Puyon, Barcelona would have really struggled to keep out the long aerial balls into the box for Berbatov. Also, not playing Fletcher was an obvious mistake. Carrick did nothing of note(as did many other United players, bnut this would have atleast given them a chance)

Having said that, I still do not think this Barcelona team is the greatest. Simply because their defenders, bar Puyol, are all not adept aerially, which makes them vulnerable to set pieces.
United, though, I have to say I expected more of a tactical hand from Sir Alex. He should not have given up at half time. think one lesson was the Copa final which Real won. They bombarded the Barca box with aerial balls, and Ronaldo scored one of them.

Barcelona, though are such an adorable team!!Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, WOW!! They were easily the best in Europe this season, and the picture of Abidal lifting the trophy is so very touching! The thing with Barcelona is, that if you love football, you have to love them. Period. Champions!
