Looking back with a Blue Eye...

With no decent Footballing action, boredom has just started to sink in.For the last few days, I have been dwelling on the season just gone by, and all those what-ifs and could-have-beens.Talking about us Chelsea fans in general, the season could be termed, well, mediocre, at the best.Well,I do agree we don't have those little pieces of history to magnify the failures, like "We were the English Champions in 1925" or "We won the European Cup in 1647" (In short, the kind of things Liverpool fans would tell you, when you have asked them why they just lost to a Northampton!).But then, Chelsea have set themselves quite high standards in the recent years. So much so, that even a 2nd place finish looks a failure big enough to sack One of the Best managers in Europe.Honestly speaking , Chelsea were terrible at times, and if Arsenal hadn't had an even worse season, things could really have turned nasty!

Chelsea's Big Three were badly off-colour this season!

Even though so much I try not to think about it, I guess the Title was lost in that horrendous run in the winter.Carlo Ancelotti described it as a "Bad moment"(which expanded to swallow a quarter of our season!). Looking back, I can't help but feel things could have been much different, had that collapse at Stamford Bridge, against Sunderland of all the teams hadn't happened (Ever since, my worst nightmares seem to involve a certain Nedum Onouha, 3rd choice Centre-back,playing full-back on that day, waltzing through the entire Chelsea defence!).It could also have been much different with our game at Birmingham, where Chelsea produced one of their best attacking performance, and still managed to score zero goals,or the game vs Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.Well, the title was lost by that time already, but it wouldn't have hurt to play at least decent football, would it? We could at least claim to end the season on a bit of high then, you see. Alas, not to be!
But then, look back with a bit more teasing look, and you'll also find it all could have much different, had the referee sent off Nemanja Vidic for a professional foul on the goal-bound forward, when West Ham led 2-0 at Upton Park (which later turned to 4-2 for United), or if Everton had been awarded a Penalty-kick at 0-0 late in the game, before Hernandes scored an even more late winner? And while much was made of David Luiz's disguised tackle on Rooney at Stamford Bridge (Even Van Der Sar,standing at the far end of the pitch, seemed certain it was a Red-card!), I must point out that a similar view of Ronney's reckless tackle vs Wigan would also have turned that game quite interesting, don't you think? Just saying.
Torres' arrival didn't spark the expected revival at Chelsea
All this could-have-beens don't really matter anymore. The season is done and dusted, so I think we should just congratulate the victors and move on to the next season. Grace suggests, we should also refrain from discussing the private lives of all the "Sirs" and "Knights" in the opposition ranks, however fascinating they may be.(This one's a bit tough,I accept, considering how many morals-abiding saints Manchester United seemed to have as supporters, when a scandal about our skipper broke out!)
All in all, a disappointing season domestically, as well as in Europe,to make it worse, ended with the loss of the only Double-winning manager in our history.Everything happens for best, they say.Sure, times do look gloomy, but you never know what the next season holds for us.And I guess that's what makes Football such a Beautiful game.

Adios.
